WOTB Resident featured in Style Weekly, faces tax burden

Museum District resident Jean Heath is featured in this week’s Style Weekly story on the property tax problem facing the poor and elderly in Richmond. Her tax bill this year is $2,500, which is about $1,000 more than last year and $600 more than she was expecting. Paying that kind of a bill on a fixed income is virtually impossible, as she and other Richmond City residents are finding out.
The funny thing is, Richmond City Council has an easy solution for this – they can allocate funding for property tax relief for the poor and elderly. The city has under-budgeted in this area by 44%, meaning residents like Jean are stuck with the bill. With the tax bill due June 15th, hopefully the City will come up with a solution.
