Brown's Island now has free wi-fi.

Yo Carytown Merchant's Association: What about free wi-fi throughout Carytown? Seems like a no-brainer.

Interesting, "broke and all" but able to hange at Chiocca's, Cafe Diem, et al. Ah well, priorities.

BTW, Phillie and a number of larger cities have attempted to implement city wide wi-fi systems with very discouraging results. Seems some folks won 't give up their "triple Play" cable TV, internet, phone deals and prefer to pay $100+++ a month.

Lots will say there is a security issue (easily overcome) and others a liability issue (some on soliciting or peddling child porn for example) which might me more or a detriment.

When I lived in the Forest Hill Ave./Hugenot Road area until last May I had open access to my Comcast hi-speed for a couple of nearby neighbors. Comcast however was not amused.

Goochland is looking at muni-wifi.

Of course Richmond is a Verizon city, and would not dare think of something as progressive as that.

Chiocca's and Cafe Diem are pretty good. Black Hand Coffee too. I'm a big fan of the free wi-fi (being broke and all).

Once when I was desperate to watch a game online, I checked out a couple. Apparently you can occasionally get free wi-fi at NY Deli. Galaxy Diner has free internet, but it's awfully smoky in there. Wheezie's Kitchen was where I ended up. And Duke beat UNC. In case you were wondering.

Baker's Crust has free wi-fi and so does Weezie's, where you just have to ask for the code.
