VMFA Snatches Up “Masterpiece”
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts recently acquired some new pieces for its collection, including a $1.75 MM masterpiece by Florentine artist Il Bachiacca. Other works purchased include a monumental urn, pieces by American artists West and Pearce, and a piece of modern art that uses neon lights.
The RTD reported that Il Bachiacca’s “The Virgin and Child with the Young Saint John the Baptist” will not be on display until early 2009. Some of the money for the new pieces came from the Museum’s endowed funds, and some came from money raised from selling other pieces.
