Virginia’s “Dangerous Dog” registry lists 1 bad dog in all of Richmond

Posted on | April 15, 2008 | 3 Comments

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has an onlineĀ ”Dangerous Dog Registry.”

The Dangerous Dog Registry provides a mechanism for consumers to determine if dangerous dogs reside in their neighborhoods and for local animal control officials to post information about dogs that have been declared dangerous by the local court.

There’s only one dog listed for all of Richmond City. I’m not sure if that’s because this service is new or that it’s just out of date, but I’m certain there’s more than one dangerous dog in this city.

At this time, only juristidictions can enter information about dogs – ordinary citizens are blocked from logging dogs. Anyway, it’s a start.

I don’t believe ordinary citizens should be able to submit dogs to the registry. Perhaps having a dog trainer as a significant other has skewed my perception, but I don’t trust the general public’s ability to determine what truly is a dangerous dog.

    BGW – I agree.

It’d be nice to figure out a way to have a complete list – it doesn’t seem like the current system is doing a great job.

This seems like a complete waste of time and money.
