VCU presses charges against Larry Sanders

In news of the weird, VCU has pressed misdemeanor charges against its top basketball star Larry Sanders for damage to a dormroom door. Sanders paid the repair bill, $150, but the school moved forward with charges in court.
The school also pressed charges against reserve forward Terrance Saintil for a similar incident. Those charges were later dropped.
VCU is taking it’s famous “full court press” to another level. Why would you press charges against your top basketball player for $150 in damages (which he paid)? Why would you press charges against ANYONE for $150 in damages which they paid?

To show that athletes need to live by the same rules as everyone else? Good for VCU administration (for once).
I hear you, but no kid should get a criminal record for horsing around in the dorms.
They should get criminal records for destroying public property. Those are our taxpayer dollars!
Tax dollars which he then repaid out-of-pocket? Overreaction. Must be something else going on here.
Anony-mouse: I think your hatred for VCU is clouding your judgement here.
Why would being a basketball player make any difference whether or not he’s charged? They would probably do this to any other student that had the same issue. It is nice to see that VCU administration doesn’t consider athletes on the same level as Free Shoes University or the University of Memphis. Unless, that’s what the boosters and alumni want……..
Using your logic, maybe I will go destroy something of VCU’s or the City’s and then pay them back without expecting a criminal record. Yeah, that’s the ticket. I think your athlete worship is clouding your judgement here.
spitting on the sidewalk is a misdemeanor also
I think what some are failing to miss here is that another player was in trouble for the same thing, but VCU didn’t press charges, that or they were dropped. So why one over the other?
Do tell the details on the other player…
