VA Senate steps up, passes non-smoking legislation
The Virginia Senate passed two smoking laws today. The first would allow communities to enact non-smoking bans in restaurants. The second is a more comprehensive bill that would ban smoking in restaurants and other public places.

Way to go, Senators! I’m confused though. It says the first provision allows communities to ban smoking in restaurants. Then it says the second provision bans smoking in restaurants. Can someone elaborate?
There were actually 4 bills. SB 298 would prohibit smoking in most indoor public places. SB 501 would prohibit smoking in restaurants statewide. SB 202 would allow localities to ban smoking in restaurants, and SB 347 would allow Hampton Roads localities to ban smoking in restaurants.
Should 298 pass the House, the rest become unnecessary. Passing all 4 gives the House some options.
