Toad’s Place opening delayed

Folks at Toad’s Place, the new 1,500 person concert facility in Shockoe Slip, announced that the Carbon Leaf show scheduled for Thursday has been moved to June 22nd. Looks like they were a little aggressive in setting a June 7th opener.
Let’s hope they get everything right and open for real when the Squirrel Nut Zippers come to town on June 21st. I think it’s odd that they haven’t announced any additional acts to my knowledge. Their calendar looks pretty bleak, with only 4 shows in June and 8 in July. I definitely want to support them and make it down for at least 1 show, but Ross is not dragging me to LoG.

  1. Listen people. Lamb of God is awesome. I’m just going to say that — I don’t care who knows it!

  2. I wish Toad’s Place the best- hell, I might wind up working there.

But I have to say, its going to be interesting to see how all of this competition unfolds. Richmond is adding more venues to the traditional ones…The Canal Walk, The Byrd, The Modlin, The National, The Landmark, Capitol Ale, and now the Carpenter/”Richmond Center”?

The awful VaPAF feasibility study was done before Toad’s Place or the National were announced and did not even include the Modlin.

I am already hearing rumors of them blocking each other’s booking. If I had a good band with a decent following- I would be using this competition to ask for some nice fees.

Don’t forget the City’s large admission and meals taxes are still in place. So why are regular citizens paying more for their property taxes and user fees?

  4. I went to the cinco de mayo festival and Toad’s place had a tent there where you could put your name in the hat to win free tickets to the SNZ concert…. and wouldn’t you know I won!!! they texted my that night and told me that I won, but they never returned my text message to tell me how to pick up my prize. Also, I was suprised to read on richmondforums (http://www.richmondforums.com/testboard/forums/Toads-Place-Richmond-t-4811.html) that somone else won as well. I am not saying they lied to me, but I think it’s interesting that this was how they chose to promote their opening.
