Toad’s Place is finally here

I know it’s not exactly “West of the Boulevard,” but Toad’s Place, a 1,500-person music and entertainment venue, is finally opening on the Riverfront.  This is great for Richmond, which has had a dearth of musical acts due to the lack of facilities to handle mid-sized crowds.  There are only so many acts that fit inside of Alley Katz

Musical acts booked to date look pretty good (at least by Richmond standards).  A few highlights…

June 21: Squirrel Nut Zippers

July 5: Summer of Love Tour

July 8: Bowling for Soup

July 21: Reel Big Fish/Less Than Jake

Sept 2: Lamb of God

From the Toad’s Place website:

Toad’s Place Richmond is a total entertainment venue located in Historic Shockoe Slip along the Canal Walk and across from the Turning Basin in Downtown Richmond, Virginia’s established entertainment district.
With a 1,500-person capacity, the three-level music venue boasts a state-of-the-art sound, light and video system, four bars and a full service restaurant with Richmond’s largest outdoor patio on the Canal. Additionally, the venue has a VIP lounge and space for private meetings & parties.

  2. I heard this place will be the stopping point between the 9:30 in DC and the Norva in Norfolk VA. This means we should be getting some really good acts!

  3. Yeah but look at what they have booked so far, nothing. There isn’t a single show I would pay to go see. It’s probably going to be a great place, but if they don’t have someone that knows how to book then it is worthless.

They MUST’ve added Slick Rick after you looked at the schedule.

  7. I see I am a little late getting here, but I hope that you all come down to Toad’s sometime this summer. It seems every blog/forum has a naysayer who wants to believe that only they know what people want to see/hear. We will be offering many artists for ALL Richmonders, not just the hipsters, hippies and metalheads.

The truth is, very few bands are touring the club circuit this summer and we are still booking them as they are available.

Give us a chance and you will eventually find many shows you are interested in.
