The Squirrels have a Coaching Staff
The Flying Squirrels now have some men to wear the uniform. The team announced this season’s coaching staff at a press conference at Home Team Grill today. The team will be managed by Andy Skeels. The pitching coach will be former MLB pitcher, Ross Grimsley. The hitting coach is Russ Moreman.
Both Skeels and Grimsley bring a very recent history of winning with them into this season. Skeels was the manager for the Augusta GreenJackets in 2008 and San Jose Giants in 2009. Both teams won their respective league championships. Grimsley coached with Skeels in 2008 in Augusta and then spent 2009 with the Connecticut Defenders, winners of the Eastern League. This is Moreman’s first year with the organization.
Not to belabor the point, but there is a good chance that we are going to have a good team in Richmond this season. Yes, it is unlikely we will see the stars that made the Defenders champions last year, but we have the stars from San Jose instead. If you think about it, Skeels and Grimsley will have had experience with almost the entire roster entering into this season; so there should be no reason to expect the success to continue.
