State Fair uses some guerilla marketing

From the RTD
A local ad firm, Siddall, is running a guerilla marketing campaign in Carytown for the State Fair. The campain includes “Missing-pet-style posters asking “Have You Seen?” with photos of what appear to be cast members from ‘Babe’” and “three restaurant-style sidewalk chalkboards, though a closer look reveals foods you can typically get only at fairs: fried Oreos and fried Pepsi, cheesecake on a stick and funnel cakes with powdered sugar.”
Pretty cool if you ask me. I am surprised to see this come from something with as much history (aka. OLD) as the State Fair.

Too bad it’s so damn expensive. Interesting how the Fair is a non-profit entity (according to their own marketing material) but I simply can’t afford to take my family at $13 a head just to get in the door. We’d be looking at easily over $100 taking all the food, rides, etc. into consideration.

Yeah I was just talking about that to Scott. If you can somehow manage to get there on a Friday after 5pm its 8$. But still that is kind of steep. And I am not one to resist 6$ corn dogs or 8$ nachos.
I. Love. Nacho. Cheese. Sauce.

Here is another thought I had. As a parent are you required to spend money on all of those crappy games and rides? Can you say “Seriously [son/daughter] those games/toys/rides are LAME.”
I don’t even know?

Exactly, Ross! $8 might not be so bad if I can indulge in a $4 funnel cake w/ blueberry topping. ;-)
And the rides are very lame. I could just tell them that the bolts aren’t tight enough and the seats my fly off. Or, I could spin the kids around myself until we all get dizzy. Doesn’t cost a dime!

Skip all the rides and games. Head over to the Equestrian Center. Let the kids milk a cow – feed some pigs and watch a couple of rodeos. But Skip the Breeding Cattle – trust me.

Kory, they’ll likely get to go as a group with school in their later years. There will be plenty of opportunities.
At least the way they structured the admission this year at least is better. Before you had to buy a more expensive ticket that included the rides even if you didn’t ride them. And, I don’t know if it’ll work for older kids, but we always pack a picnic and then buy one sensible treat like a frozen banana dipped in chocolate and nuts. I think it’s the best and only $3 banana I ever ate.
