Springers upset Cadets 53-51

The Highland Springs Springers knocked off top-ranked Benedictine 53-51 in the finals of the Richmond Times Dispatch High School basketball tournament. Benedictine, ranked #1 in the area, faced a 7 point half-time deficit and was unable pull out a victory. Benedictine beat the Springers earlier this year by four points.

Benedictine’s bench provided little depth, as only 5 players were able to record points during the game. A meltdown at the end of the second quarter, where the Cadets were outscored 9-2, also contributed to the loss.

Area polls could see a shakeup as we enter the 2nd half of the season, as Highland Springs is poised to take over the top ranking, moving Benedictine down.
