Absolutely NOT! Look what happened to JMU’s athletic program.. they had to cut nearly 10 sports to make up for the shortfall.. Keep as is.. it would be a huge mistake!
Title IX would dictate Sean’s point from player numbers alone. It would certainly ensure plenty of full-ride women bowlers in RVA when the program kicks off.
VCU could go I-AA, not award scholarships, and see how it goes. U of R Stadium will be begging to be used once the Spiders move out.
Commonwealth Times had an outlandish editorial calling for football.

I think the editorial was more mocking the call for football from one of the current SGA Presidential candidates than really trying to make the case for it.
VCU doesn’t need a football team. It’ll cost more than it’s worth.
No.
Upon first read, I thought the editorial was just poorly written. Upon second read, it’s both poorly written and not funny.
Should we instead be asking, “should U of R abandon it’s football team?”
If football teams are so unprofitable and unwanted, U of R dropping its football program could do wonders, right?
Heck no, VCU shouldn’t get a football team. How the heck could we ever expect to remain undefeated that way?
Also, the less beer-can-on-head-crushing frat boys that VCU attracts, the better (see: UVA).
A Football team is just what VCU needs. VCU has the largest student body in the state. Of the top 5 schools in Virginia in terms of student population, VCU is # 1 however it is the only school of the 5 to not to have a football program. School spirit for the VCU athletic teams is at an all-time high. A football team would offer more opportunities for athletic scholarships and increase VCU’s endowments. As well as increase VCU’s boundaries, safety and annual fiscal gain.
