More trouble at Byrd Park

  1. I wish you would be more thoughtful with your headlines. Byrd Park became the second victim of this crime when you decided to be so inexact in siting the crime.
Anyone who read only your headline would most likely make an incorrect inference. Turk

  2. Two blocks east of Swan Lake. That sounds like Meadow Street in the Maymont neighborhood to me. And what was the previous trouble at Byrd Park? If that’s a reference to Tyler Binsted, I think the murder happened at the other end by the baseball field, in the Carytown South neighborhood. Semantics, obviously. But I do agree with Turk, because in the space between those two crimes lies several square miles of beautiful and relatively peaceful park, not to mention a really great neighborhood.

  3. NOT semantics…most in WOTB would not take lightly to someone calling the Museum District the “Upper Fan” (unless you own Banditos, which constantly references their “FAN” location) and the smaller groups should have the same respect.

That aside, in the case of both these crimes, the instances had less to do with the safety of the area in which they occurred than with random stupidity.

I could not agree with Turk more…we should make the effort to know the neighborhoods around us and represent them correctly, both in initial posts and comments.

BTW, the Binsted murder was in the park proper across the street from the Carillon Neighborhood. Carytown South runs South of Cary to the ditch, and east from Nansemond to Colonial. Anyone interested in learning about their neighborhoods can reference the city’s on line maps…if you have dial up…skip it…you could crochet a map faster than waiting on the thing to load

  4. The link referenced above: Civic association boundaries: http://www.ci.richmond.va.us/applications/maplibrary/maps%5CCommunity_Development%5CCitywide_Civic_Assoc_24×36.pdf

For what its worth, based upon the last link this crime happened on the border of Randolph Community and Jones Park Neighborhoods. North of them is Byrd Park neighborhood and just south of them is Maymont neighborhood.

The Binstead murder occurred (as Fiona stated) on the border of the Carillon neighborhood/Byrd Park (the actual park, not the ‘hood).
