Local ABC station doesn’t know where Carytown is
In covering the fire at Bogarts, ABC mistakenly referred to the restaurant being located in Carytown. The top story on the homepage is “Fire Damages Carytown Bar.”
WRIC is badly, badly mistaken and shows how little the station knows (or cares) about the city it covers. Not the first time and won’t be the last.

But… But it’s ON CARY STREET!
Sine is in Carytown, right?
WHO CARES! Is there a set place for Carytown to begin or end.
OMG The Horror!?? Tar and feather! OMG!?
rush jobs usually end with inaccurate results…
@wolf, certainly there will be no casualties due to the error, however, it is so basic, it makes them look bad that they can’t get it right
It is curious why folks are so sensitive (read as militant) about the area/neighborhood names, myself included, i think it is that there is so much hsitory and identity wrapped up in these names, it feels disrespectful to call an area something other than what the residents call it
I think this is similar to how a lot of people use “The Fan” to refer to any part of the city that isn’t the Bottom.
@Mike: I always thought of Carytown as Thompson to Boulevard – which seems to be how carytown.org defines it as well.
The 1900 block is a tad further down.
had thought mike was just sassin’, could be wrong
I thought this was all “downtown”
(just kidding!)
Television stations tend to have junior reporters that rotate in and out of their respective beats without ever getting the feel of their districts. Richmond’s unique in that there’s TV anchors who’ve been here for decades, and used to be there were more experienced reporters — but like everything else, things change.
Carytown is Thompson to the Boulevard.
