“LAST” graffiti vandal nabbed

LASTThe vandal who has been tagging various locales around the city with the word “LAST” may have left his last mark for a while. Michael E. Clark,22, was captured by police and charged with property destruction.

The word “LAST” has been tagged throughout the city, including the Museum District. Clark’s work can be seen on a garage near my apartment (pictured above). Clark is a resident of the Museum District.

From RTD:

Clark, of the 3000 block of Park Avenue, could not be located yesterday for comment. Police are asking anyone who finds other LAST monikers around the city to call (804) 646-5100.

  1. The MDA is encouraging everyone to look around your homes and report sightings of the “LAST” tag to the RPD. We’d like to hang as many charges as possible on Mr. Clark and set an example to other vandals in our area that this type of destruction will not be tolerated.

  2. From Lt. El-Amin:

I would like to submit a public request for citizens who have been vandalized by Michael Clark to please file a police report if they would like to press charges and seek compensation for property damage. When filing graffiti reports for “LAST” please direct the reports to Detective Kuper in 3rd Precinct.

I will also request that citizens report any additional tags for “LAST” to the 311 defect number for the DPW Graffiti Removal program. This will be a comprehensive documented removal process to gather evidence for court.

  3. On a personal note, I really liked some of his tags. Even though they were just tags.

  4. You know, sometimes I think we need a graffiti park, and when springtime comes, and a young man’s fancy turns to spray painting his personal identity all over someone else’s wall, they could all be shooed toward that general location — where ever that would be.

You’ve probably all heard of Five Pointz…

But I’m an old fogey who is out of touch with the yoots of today.

  6. You know the funny thing is that I wrote a post about this, and my blogger acquaintance from out west noticed this post and pointed me to it :)

  7. Its sad that the museum District along with the
Fan District have to distroy some ones life because they wrote on some walls. How can you read the writting on the walls if there isn’t any. His tags are pretty bad though.

    Bishup @ May 6th, 2008 at 12:13 pm

  8. It’s not like he just wrote on a couple of walls - the tags are all over town. Certainly he knew he was damaging a lot of property. If his life gets “ruined,” it’s his own fault.

Does anyone have a count of how many tags there actually are?

    Melissa @ May 6th, 2008 at 2:45 pm

  9. A resident on N. Sheppard counted 18 “Last” tags in one four block area of the Museum District, at that rate, the total count around town of Mr. Last’s handiworks should be somewhere approaching infinity.

Let’s be clear here. Vandalizing someone else’s property is a crime. If you have something to say with a can of spray paint, do it on your own property. The victims here are the property owners who are out the money to cover or remove the vandalism from their property. It is a cost they would not have had, had Mr. Last not perpetrated these crimes upon them. If Mr. Last is upset that he got caught he should have either opted NOT to perpetrate these crimes in the first place or he should have been better at it and not gotten caught.

@ Bishup…if you are looking to root for the underdog here, it is NOT Mr. Last.

  10. Bishup,

You should post your street address so that local readers of WOTB can give you something to read. I think we were all ignorant of your desire for graffiti on your property.
