Is the new Carytown pizza place open?

Pizza

Style Weekly broke the news that the former owners of Bambino’s Pizza were trying their hand at a new pizza venture called “Buon Giornio Pizza” just down the street from their old establishment.

“Giorno” (from the popular frozen pizza) means day, but I’m not sure what “Giornio” means.

Has anyone been there or seen it open for business?

  1. Buon Giorno = Good Day, or a proper form of Hello in italian.

No idea what the extra ‘i’ does for it though.

  2. I don’t mean to point out the obvious here, but there is a way to find out the answer to trivial a question other than blogging and asking “the community” to shed enlightenment. One idea that comes to mind is: turn off the computer, walk/bike/drive to Carytown and find out for yourself. In fact, buy a slice and write about it.

Actually, my real frustration with this post is that it has been up for a couple days at least, generated dozens of hits (if not more thanks to RVABlogs.com) and NO ONE has answered this simple question. Why not?

A similar thing happened on the Fan District Hub blog about a possible Starbucks at Grace and Harrison. No one chimed in to answer the question about why the old Village restaurant space has remained vacant for so long. Why can’t Richmond’s “community blogs” serve these simple functions?

Are our local blogs really building community or just amplifying the attention getting behavior of those who see fit to think-out-loud whenever an idea crosses their minds?

  3. There is permanent lighted signage above the door now that says “House of Calzone” (as opposed to the posterboard hand crafted “Buon Giornio” number previously in the window). I wish them well.

–foodie, get your point on the preferred role , and some would say obligation, of the community blog, however, not sure why the pizza place triggered this reaction, the Pizza place is not yet open, therefore no slice to be had. As for the Starbucks, I am as opposed to it as I am to the the ice cream place that shall not be named at the corner of Cary and Colonial. All I can say is Richmond to me, is about the local Mom and Pop…Mama Bev and Papa Rostov. I hope others agree and spend their money accordingly.

  4. Give the people what they want, right? If it tops RVABlogs and is the most read story here on WOTBN.net, something must be right.

The story is meant to draw people’s attention to the stores and businesses in the area. We hope to eventually feature every local business on this community blog. Karsen’s is one example; we posted rumors of their opening and asked if anyone had been there. Eventually, once they’re established, we want to go back and do something more in-depth.

Plus, once people start heading to the businesses, they can post their thoughts and comments. (If it’s not open, how can anyone go there to write a review?)

Business openings certainly isn’t the only thing we do here. Check out the “Carystreet Charrette” or the “Museum District developers” if you want to see meaningful discussions about our neighborhoods.

If you have other ideas for this community blog, we’re absolutely open to them. In fact, we’ll sign you up right now with an account and you can start blogging your heart out.

  5. I guess I can see some use in this kind of post, thanks to clarification. My preference is for some element of news in a blog post, or a bit of a personal story. This one asked for others to tell the story and report the news, but after many hits, no one had. Clicking on blog posts with the hope of learning something and coming up empty handed is simply a pet peeve of mine. At least now the word is out: House of Calzone isn’t open yet. When it does open, I’ll review it in my blog. However, I live east of the Boulevard.

  6. House of Calzone is a much better name! I’ll post my review once I get my sausage calzone with onions and peppers.
