Help The Byrd This Weekend
From the Museum District Association Facebook Page:
There is an effort to save and support the Byrd Theatre this Sun., August 8, during the Carytown Watermelon Festival. To participate, stop by Richmond’s beloved theater and donate $1 per person to help them through these tough economic times and help spur needed renovations (and new seats!)
With 100,000+ expected at the Watermelon Festival, RVA should be able to rally around this community gem and help keep the doors open! You can stop by anytime (not just Sunday) to donate!

I dont mind supporting the Byrd… I love the Byrd, but they’ve been promising better seats since the turn of the millennium.
I’d rather you just tell me my donation goes to the salaries of poor VCU student ticket collectors, because those seats aren’t going anywhere.
I hear your frustration, but it never came to light how much the Byrd was struggling financially. It’s not like someone was taking the money and running with it. They were just trying to make ends meet.
What a great idea! I understand that the Byrd doesn’t have enough funds to keep itself afloat forever. A fundraising effort is awesome. I also heard that for $10 you can get a coupon page to 20 businesses in Carytown! I think it’s on Carytown’s facebook page.
