Sector officers have done numerous surveillences with bikes and scooters in an effort to make arrests. We have also increased our overnight staffing with plainclothes officers trying to deter this type of crime. Identification marks on the bike or scooter is beneficial when we recover these items. The key is to have that info when a report is made. Your sector Lieutenant Sybil El Amin, and Ed Capriglione on the other side of the Boulevard are very aware of the impact of this type of crime. While it was my own dumb fault for forgetting to lock it, my back stoop is not visible from the street and few people pass by there. I keep my new bike indoors. Someone attempted to steal my mountain bike one night when it was on my bike rack on my car, but it was locked. Ha ha suckers! Now I keep my bikes inside, or locked in the shed. Nobody's ever tried to steal my motorcycle, at least not that I'm aware of, but they're not as easy as scooters. It is chained to my porch and someone must have sat on my porch and tried to torch to lock off.
