Fence installed to protect horse statue
The droopy horse statue on Boulevard in front of the VHS has been the victim of people climbing up for a ride, but unlike some sculptures this poor guy apparently doesn’t hold up as well. Thick (and spider infested, I’m sure) bushes were planted around the base of the statue to deter climbers, but even those didn’t keep people off. Now a new iron fence stands guard and hopefully will prove more successful.
The statue was erected in 1998 and is a memorial to the one and a half million Union and Confederate horses and mules who were killed, injured, or died of disease during the Civil War. Next time you pass him don’t try to climb, but do tip your hat to our equine friend.
