The “Last Friday Art Show” takes place every last Friday of the month at West Coast Kix in Carytown. This is an unique opportunity for local artist to display their work in-store for a month, leading up to the next show. The first show of the year featured art by RVA illustrator Kevin Solley and music by RVA’s own Nint3ndo.

Biograph Theatre’s 40th Anniversary Celebration

On its 40th anniversary, the Biograph Theatre, or perhaps something akin to its reanimated spirit, will serve up a pair of highly acclaimed films as a double feature to kick off a three or more part series titled “The Golden Age of Repertory Cinema.”

In other words, the James River Film Society will present “Breathless” (1960) — a 50th anniversary restoration 35mm print no less — and “Lonely Are the Brave” (1962) at the VCU Grace Street Theater on Saturday, February 11, 2012. The event will be a fundraiser for the volunteer run nonprofit James River Film Society and an opportunity to officially launch its campaign to establish a small storefront cinema in downtown Richmond.

This splendid on-the-lam twin bill is guaranteed to make viewers think no less than twice.

Grace Street’s Candlelight Home Tour

Modern Artifacts is set to open in March in the old Phoenix location at 3039 West Cary Street. Judging by the images on their site and the fact that Loft3F (vintage industrial & Mid-Century Modern furniture) is “working on store fixtures & inventory” for Modern Artifacts, it looks like they’ll be offering something interesting.

My bike was stolen from in front of Cafe Ole in carytown [last night ] between 10 and 12 tonight. The bike was a blue Fuji newest 3.0, blue and white frame. blue and white camo bar tape, bent brake levers, two spoke cards, and more dents than two face.

A neon light that shined on Broad Street in Richmond, Virginia for more than 60 years was extinguished Wednesday.

The neon lobster sign that sat atop Byram’s Lobster House was removed from the restaurant as the new owners prepared to reopen under the name Tower Fish House later this month.

8 pm Panel Discussion: John Wiley, Ellen Brown (authors of Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind), & Molly Haskell Moderator: Professor Jane Lucas, University College, VCU

The 9th annual Kids Walk for Kids, a 2-mile “friendraser and fundraiser” walk supporting coordinators2inc has been announced for Saturday March 24, 2012. All money raised from the event supports coordinators2inc programming that recruits and prepares parents to adopt children waiting in the Virginia foster care system. Our services also support those children by preparing them for the move from a temporary home to a permanent, forever family.

Check-in begins at 8:30AM at Benedictine College Preparatory (304 North Sheppard Street), and the two mile walk begins at 9AM. Adults are $25, children are free. Games and prizes following the walk. Register in advance at c2adopt.org or Saturday morning during check-in.

On the corner of Cary Street and Colonial Avenue in Carytown you’ll find the gem that is Cartwheels & Coffee: a locally-owned, indoor play space where kids ages 6 and under can sufficiently shake their sillies out while their parents enjoy a hot or cold beverage…and perhaps even a complete conversation with another adult!
