Cary, Summer Hill, Bellevue and either Fisher or Southampton elementary schools as being “repurposed.” That means the building could potentially be used for other reasons, like housing specialty schools or special needs children. Heroes Parade

Resources: The Carillon grounds will host a Veterans Resource Village from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring service and outreach organizations, including state, federal and local agencies and employers.

History Hounds Explore Hollywood Cemetery

In 1862, twenty-three-year-old Edwin Forbes joined a corps of artists sent to Virginia to capture scenes of the war that would illustrate the pages of Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper. Forbes and his colleagues did much to shape public perceptions—then and now—of the American Civil War. This exhibition features 156 original pen-and-ink drawings that Forbes produced from wartime sketches to illustrate his book, Thirty Years After: An Artist’s Story of the Great War. On May 19th, Armed Forces Day, the historic city of Richmond will throw a grand Welcome Home Parade for our returning veterans from the ongoing War on Terror. Richmond and the great state of Virginia have one of oldest and proudest military traditions in the nation, and the state plays host to Fort Lee, Naval Station Norfolk, MCB Quantico, the National Maritime Center, Langley Air Force Base, and the Pentagon.

On Armed Forces Day, the Old Dominion will proudly partner with the Welcome Home Foundation–the founders of the nation’s first Welcome Home event in St. Louis on January 28th–to create a fantastic event that honors those who so bravely served in our ongoing War on Terror. Style Weekly reviews the new Burger Bach on Ellwood and has good words for the food and the room. A mention of their pricing policy has been picked up in the comments under the article…

It isn’t surprising that the basics burger ($7) is a smack-you-in-the-face standout patty sandwich. Ordered pink, that’s how it shows up. The sturdy 6-ouncer is juicy and flavorful if a little messy, but burger juice isn’t a bad thing. The appropriately named hangover cure ($11) is a behemoth with toppings of fried egg, uncured bacon, American cheese, sautéed onions, green chili sauce, hot sauce, tomato and mayonnaise. Beneath all that is a darn good burger. The West Coast burger ($10) is equally over-sauced. The bite of organic cheddar and the sweetness of caramelized onions are hidden by a heavy dousing of roasted jalapeño remoulade. [...]

All this sauce and seriousness doesn’t come cheap. Burgers range from $7-$11 and each extra item is in fact extra, even lettuce and tomato at $1 each. Cheese is an added $2. Need more ketchup? That’s also a dollar.

Found a little brown dachshund mix on my back patio this morning on Belmont and Stuart. He’s very friendly, but shy. Has a green collar but his name tag fell off. We just got some food for him and gave him some water and he seems happy but we aren’t supposed to have dogs in our apartment. He also seems like he misses home.

1st District Schoolboard Representative Kim Bridges announced earlier in the year that she will not be seeking re-election. Trent Park is the 1st candidate to surface, although he has not officially filed yet.

Near completion of his degree, Trent spent a short time working for the City of Richmond’s Department of Community Development assisting the review of rehabilitation projects and cataloging vacant buildings in some of Richmond’s most poverty stricken neighborhoods. The experience was an early introduction to many parts of Richmond that most people never see. For the last eight years, Trent has worked for the Virginia Economic Development Partnership leading a technical team charged with analyzing data and creating products to help advance Virginia’s value proposition to industries considering relocating or expanding within Virginia. Trent also has experience as managing partner of a small commercial real estate company that owns historic properties and has rehabilitated distressed residential property here in Richmond.

Currently Trent is serving on the RPS Rezoning Committee charged with developing new zone boundaries for all of Richmond’s Public Schools. He’s also active in the Mary Munford community, participating in the PTA, fundraising events, soccer, volunteering with the occasional class project.

U.S.News has awarded Thomas Jefferson a Bronze medal in their national ranking of high schools.
