Eating Breakfast- West of the Boulevard?
I love my morning food. I need my morning food.
So my question to you all, is there any place you eat breakfast in the West of the Boulevard area (Carytown, Carytown South, Museum District, Scott’s Addition)?
- Can Can has nice pastries
- New York Deli has a full menu
- Weezie’s Kitchen has some good Southern cooking
- Yes there are the chain’s like McDonalds and Starbucks and The Bakers Crust
- Moore St Cafe has the $2.22 breakfast

Dairy Bar!!! It’s in Scott’s Addition and it is AWESOME. It’s on Roseneath near the Hand Craft Cleaners building. Go NOW. I love that place, awesome breakfast and lunch.. only open til 2 or 3 PM, so no dinner. Oh, and as the name would imply they have wonderful ice cream and milkshakes.
Yes, Dairy Bar is awesome. Is McCleans considered WOTB? That place is good and cheap.
I am a total foodie hack. I have never been to the Dairy Bar.
technically McLeans is Near West End. But totally solid place. Where else can you get Brains and Eggs?
Banditos has pretty great breakfast food.
Banditos Burrito Lounge in the Devil’s Triangle has excellent Saturday & Sunday brunches with a limited breakfast menu served during the week…
Definitely New York Deli & Galaxy for the full menu. I’ve been disappointed with Weezie’s Kitchen. Can Can & Jean Jaques battle for the best pastries. Willams Bakery satisfies the occasional donut craving.
Sounds like I’ve gotta try the Dairy Bar soon.
Breakfast Bar at Ellwood Thompson’s!
I think Moore St Cafe puts the Dairy Bar to shame ($2.22, yall). DB is quiant, if you wanna feel like you’re walking onto the set of Happy Days, but I’ve never had anything memorable (or particularly affordable) to eat there.
Jean Jacques isn’t competing with anyone these days. I hear mgmt has been handed down a generation in the family and something has really been lost in transfer. Croissants like CostCo. Meanwhile, Can Can’s are heavenly.
As much as I despise the prices at Ellwoods, their huevos rancheros burrito for $5 is usually good for two hearty meals (have hot sauce ready). Don’t get it at the coffee shop. It’s a few bucks more there.
Don’t act like I’m not gonna take my ass across the Boulevard and go to Karen’s.
I’ve been around WOTB, but the 821 Cafe (Cary and Cherry? in the Fan) is still tops– Veggie biscuits and gravy for a couple bucks.
I was disappointed with the brunch I had at Weezie’s. Didn’t seem like a lot of choices, and I got an egg/cheese sandwich that was kind of sparse and not memorable. I like that place, so I’d give it another try. Keep an eye out for my post soon about brunch places over at RVA News.
