I smoked for 15 years and quit on my 30th birthday.

Used to for 9 years. Quit about a year ago. I’m glad of this proposal, but being a smoker is recent enough to feel sympathetic to those who still smoke. It’s true that I and others would have been better off not ever starting, but until you’ve been addicted to something, you have no idea how hard it is to stop. Quitting smoking is the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

I used to smoke too. It was REALLY hard to quit, but I’m so glad I did it. Now I feel like it looks tacky and the smell… I had NO idea it was so bad until I quit.
So yes, I’m a bit sympathetic, but really, it’s not a big deal to just go outside and light up. I did it in NY and it wasn’t a problem.
