Community Garden meeting Thursday

Posted on | January 6, 2009 | 4 Comments

From MDA:

The coordinators of the Community Garden at Humphrey Calder Community Center, located at 414 North Thompson Street (map, will be holding a very important planning meeting this coming Thursday, January 8, at 7:30PM.

Planners are hoping attendees will reserve additional plots in order to maximize the area made available for the garden by the Department of Parks and Recreation.  Public interest in reserving plots will determine the scope of the project, so all those interested in seeing a large successful community garden are encouraged to attend. The meeting will also include present designs for the site, fence, shed, etc. You can learn more at Tricycle Gardens

Word on the street is that the group needs more folks to reserve plots so they can justify the space they requested from the city. Once the fence gets put up I can’t see them making it bigger without act of congress or voice of God.

Get out there folks and grab a plot! Lets help make it happen!

Tricycle Gardens is collecting a $50 dollar plot fee to ensure a spot in the garden when it opens. You can go online to their site and “donate” your 50 dollars that way (noting that your donation is for the Humphrey Calder Community Garden plot fee)….OR you can bring 50 dollars to any of the meetings until the garden fills up.

There was a great turnout at the meeting last night and continued turnout will be necessary to maximize the success of the project. Great ideas were shared regarding composting, cutting out the plots, and the responsibilities of the participants.

Organizers are still in need of support from the community for fundraising and finalizing design details. I believe Lisa with Tricycle gardens is the one to contact if you have skills/time/funds to contribute.

Any bright ideas on how to manage and coordinate children’s garden plots or programs would be an asset.
