Byrd Theatre inspected for ghosts
Posted on | October 30, 2007 | 14 Comments
Carytown’s Byrd Theatre was recently examined by ghost hunters from Ghostec, who spent the night in the empty theatre with video and sound equipment. Their target was former Byrd manager Bob Coulter who died in 1978 but is rumored to still roam inside. His favorite seat continues to be the left aisle of the 2nd to-last-row in the center section of the balcony.
The RTD has a slideshow documenting the endeavor. I’m not sure who footed the bill for Ghostec, but I sure hope it wasn’t the Byrd Theatre Foundation.

Update: Ghostec does not charge for its services. From the article: “Sue, Ghostec’s co-founder, had to work tonight. Everyone has a day job; Ghostec doesn’t charge for its services.” — Ed.

I like the haunted house on their website. :-)
Wonder if I spend the night in the Byrd and rattle some chains from the lofts if that would qualify me as a ghost in there!

BTW, here’s Ghostec’s investigate link for anyone who’s interested:

They seem like really nice folks from their investigation notes. I’d be hanging around one of the investigations if they ever come back to town.

Why don’t you ask them?
That’s the kind of stuff that would add worth to a blog post.

The article stated that Ghostec does this kind of the for free.

It’s kind of weird that the Byrd Theatre would allow Ghost Hunters to roam the theatre all night. Is that really a good use of the theatre? Odd.
Who’s next, the Ghostbusters? Better bring the Proton Pack to nab Bob the Ghost and his friend Slimer.

The theater shuts down at Midnight, and except for the cleaning staff, is empty all night long. So whether or not people are there makes no difference, it doesn’t impact the operation of the theater in any way.

Thought it was neat what Ghostic did when they checked out the Byrd Saturday night for Bob Coulter’s ghost. Enjoyed reading the article about it as well. I’m looking forward to going to The Byrd on New Years for the big celebration at the Byrd and it will be neat to see Todd Shall-Vess hoist his New Year’s Eve ball off New York Deli.

This reply is late, but whoever is listed in the “Meetups” group post did not participate in the Byrd Theater investigation.

That’s correct, Jonathan. The meetup group has done a number of investigations but they are not the same group that did the Byrd. More info is available at http://www.richmondghosts.com/ !
