Bring your own shaker to Acacia

Posted on | September 8, 2007 | 2 Comments

Salt and PepperSome restaurants just don’t put salt and pepper shakers on the table. Acacia in Carytown is one example. Their stance: “The food is seasoned in the kitchen. Period.”

Should a restaurant restrict your spice preferences?

I worked at a coffee shop that also served breakfast eggs, and the owner refused to serve ketchup. If someone asked for ketchup he told them it was an insult to the cook (which was usually him) and likened it to asking a Chinese cook for soy sauce. I guess this is a little different than salt and pepper.

Salt and Pepper better be on the table at Applebees. But Maybe in Acacia case they could offer it on request. I think Dale Reitzer just carried this over from his days working under Jimmy Snead at Windows on Urbanna Creek.

I think if I were a chef (laugh) I would be upset if some guy just dumped salt and pepper on something I made before he even tried it… but after he tried it and he wanted salt/pepper — no prob…
