Ben & Jerry’s now open

The Carytown Ben & Jerry’s is now open, complete with a mural of Carytown inside. This is the chain’s 2nd try at success on Cary Street – the 1999 venture lasted a year.
Ben & Jerry’s is planning a second location in downtown Short Pump in “West Broad Village,” the newest megamall. Some high caliber stores are lined up, including REI, Dave & Busters, Whole Foods, Old Navy, and Gordon Biersch Brewery.

It is time for Bev’s to innovate or die. Lets be honest, Ben & Jerry’s just has a better product for the most part. I really love Bev’s (especially the local partnerships they have formed) but if they can’t step it up a notch they are going to have a hard time staying in business.

Seriously. Like the $5 minimum thing on credit cards (which I think they still have) – inconvenient and behind the times.

Can you buy anything for under $5.00 there??
I do hope the inside of Ben and Jerry will look better than the last time they were here. and thats not saying to much for Bevs either…

if you all ever have an issue with the $5 minimum for credit cards, you may want to talk to a manager or owner (this being anywhere that does this) because it is 100% against the bylaws of both Visa & MasterCard to require a minimum amount before a merchant can run a credit card. (This only pertains to credit card purchases, if you process it as debit then they can put whatever restrictions they want on it).
So if you’re up for an argument to get that $3 cone on your card…let them have it!

One of the primary reasons that Carytown is so refreshing is its lack of chains. Go visit Austin and see how successful the Keep Austin Weird campaign has been. Ben and Jerry’s entrance to the area defeats the purpose of Carytown. If I want mass-produced cream, I’ll drive into the westend. They are no longer cute and boutique–perhaps if they offered a brand extension which spoke to local flavor… Long live Bev’s.
And c’mon, carry around a Lincoln. If that is tough, ice cream might not be your primary need.

Bev’s rocks, is the only place I buy ice cream and related treats. I will defend it to the end as well as any other local establishment, however, their payment model is archaic. I personally do not carry cash because the single card is much easier to deal with on walkabout in C’town and not have to carry luggage.

I’m a Bev’s supporter as well. I’d imagine if enough people are willing to voice their displeasure with the minimum payment, they’d change it in lieu of losing out to another business.
Personally Ben and Jerry’s has too much crap in it to be considered ice cream. More like candy that got dropped into milk and ended up in the freezer.

Bev’s! It’s gotta be Bev’s. Ben & Jerry’s can’t compare. True, I’m not sure there’s much you can buy in Bev’s for under $5, unless you’re watching your weight and opt for a kidding cup or something. But the same goes for B&J. Yeah, yeah, you can put that $3 ice-cream on your card there. That’s convenient, but sheesh. Long live Bev’s and her brownie sundae. And purple cow ice-cream. And ginger ice-cream. And…

Ben & Jerry’s store in carytown looks awesome. It looks so much better than when it was that crappy pink rundown laundry. Plus, the ice cream is the best quality and taste in the world. They also let me place my purchase on credit card with no minimum required…..yes, it’s against the visa/mc rules for any company to require a minimum if using a credit card. I guess Bev’s has been screwing with us all these years in order to make our purchase higher!! This Ben & Jerry’s is also not a company owned store….there’s a sign in the window that says its an independant franchise. I asked about it and the owners are a mother & son much like Bev’s. So I have NO problem supporting them as they may have a national name but there flavors are way better and i’m still supporting people from the community.

D&B!!! I have been to at least 10 of them accross the country and in Canada and they are the best for the whole family! The Dave and Busters experience is even an experience for team building through your company during the day when you want to go at lunch and unwind with co-workers!!! I cannot wait to have a D&B here in the West End!!!
