Another Bed and Breakfast on Monument Ave?

In reading Sunday’s RTD, I noticed this building permit application…

John L. and Joanne H. Zorack, owners; B & B Home Improvement Inc., contractor; 2806 Monument Ave., alterations to multifamily home, $195,425.

It looks like another B&B is set to open on Monument Ave. I’ve already said that I don’t think businesses belong on our most beloved byway.

What do you think? How many B&Bs are too many on Monument?

  1. B&B or not, these people should be recognized and commended for whipping the burned-out shell of The Jackson apartment building into what stands there today. The weeds and trash are gone and the boarded-up windows have all been replaced. The new brick-red exterior paint job is a huge improvement over the cold blue eyesore that we all used to have to look at. I’m not sure that the building is suitable for a B&B, considering its size, but condos could be a distinct possibility.

  2. How do we know its another B & B? Maybe the owners are just renovating the building.

  3. Apartments are, in a technical way, a business venture, aren’t they? Those buildings are often owned by limited liability corporations, and they rent is profiting somebody. And there are plenty of apartment buildings on Monument.

There are doctors and lawyers offices, masseuse clinics, at least one optometrist, architect and design firms operating out of Monument Avenue first floors.

We don’t want Golden Arches or annoying neon displays, for sure, on Monument. But I don’t think that’s going to happen. The street is for the most part residential, and an historic district, so there’s not much ugliness that can be brought onto the sidewalks without community approval.
