It does take strength to be a true friend to someone in this situation and this young lady is going to need her friends in the coming years. I am not without compassion for the whole left in the lives of the perpetrator and their family, however, my thoughts are mostly with the victim's family and friends as they put together even a semblance of a life in the wake of this tragic loss of life.
