Adios, R-Braves
2008 will be the last season the Richmond Braves call Richmond home. They will be moving to the north Atlanta suburb of Gwinett County.
The news comes to the Atlanta Journal Consitution from two sources inside the team. Officials notified RTD of the move, but haven’t notified the Diamond. They have until Oct 1st to opt out of their contract for 2009. However, this could be just another ploy by the parent team to get a free, new stadium.
We’ll continue to follow this story as news develops.

Whoa wtf. I wonder if this has anything to do with the city flirting with developing “the boulevard property.”
Who likes baseball anyway?
Damn, this really stinks!
I would say that it was all the incompetent city government’s fault, but I also have been to several games in the past few years and can report that the Diamond is hardly ever at capacity. So I’d imagine the team wants to go where more money is as well.
As a baseball fan, this makes me sad.
*sigh*
Even though its too late – I would be willing to bet that attendance was pretty good. Granted not too many of us can show up to those 2:00 afternoon games during the week. But most games I attended with the fam in the evenings seemed good. And not to mention the Braves had a pretty good season last year. Going to a Braves Game was fun and Cheap – we are sad to see it go.
