Alley cleanup May 3rd
The MDA’s Spring alley cleanup is this Saturday.
Volunteers will meet at the Benedictine High School cafeteria at 7:30 AM.
The event last October removed 13.4 TONS of trash.

RTD has an interesting story on “Connecticut,” the Native American that’s perched above a concourse in the Diamond looking out towards the Boulevard. The Mattaponi are said to be interested in purchasing him.

Gas leak in Scott’s Addition

Richmond fire authorities responded about 8:45 a.m. to a report of a gas leak in the 1600 block of Mactavish Avenue, just east of the junction of West Broad Street and Interstate 195.
Crews found that a tractor-trailer had backed into a gas meter, fracturing the line, along a street that houses several warehouses.

Free ice cream cone day at Ben & Jerry’s – Tuesday, April 29th
Also known as the best day ever, Free Cone Day is Tuesday at the Carytown Ben & Jerry’s. They’ll be handing out free ice cream from noon to 8 PM.
Richmond Little League will also be on hand.

Virginia slow to adopt eco-friendly products versus the rest of the US
Wal-Mart released a study tracking the adoption rate of eco-friendly products over less eco-friendly alternatives. They tracked the sales of products such as compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) and organic milk over the past month and compared it to last year.

Virginia Independent Film Festival Friday at the Byrd Theater

Veggie Fest is back – now with more veggies
The Richmond Vegetarian Festival is back for year 6. The 2008 festival is likely to be bigger and better than last year’s fest, given the huge publicity, attendence, and support for last year’s shindig.
The event will be held June 21st in Bryan Park, and admission is free.

Virginia’s “Dangerous Dog” registry lists 1 bad dog in all of Richmond
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has an online ”Dangerous Dog Registry.”
The Dangerous Dog Registry provides a mechanism for consumers to determine if dangerous dogs reside in their neighborhoods and for local animal control officials to post information about dogs that have been declared dangerous by the local court.
