Ten Thousand Villages hosts fair trade presentation

Ten Thousand Villages, the Carytown store that features third world crafts, is hosting a presentation from visiting artisans from India and Nepal and a discussion on fair trade. The presentation will take place on Wednesday, April 2 from 10 AM to noon. It’s free. Ten Thousand Villages is located at 3201 W. Cary St.

Slaughterama to visit Carytown

Slaughterama, the annual bicycle festival which words cannot describe, is this weekend. On the schedule of events is a “tall-bike” ride to NY Deli tonight at 6pm. Man murdered near Byrd Park tennis courts

A man was shot and died early this morning near the Byrd Park tennis courts in an apparent robbery attempt. The incident happened around 12:45 AM. Volunteers needed to help mulch in Byrd Park

Friends of William Byrd Park (FOWBP) will be coordinating a “Prune & Groom” event to mulch the young trees around the VitaCourse and possibly the Roundhouse also. Skybus to shuttle from Richmond to St. Augustine

Indigo Girls PWN Byrd Theatre

The good news: The Indigo Girls have rescheduled their show for May 31st. The bad news: They’re now playing at The National instead of The Byrd. All the Byrd has on their website is this graphic, but needless to say, they’re disappointed.

Thomas Jefferson High School receives AP grant

Tim Kaine announced that Thomas Jefferson is one of five local high schools (14 statewide) to receive a grant to get more students into AP classes and improve test scores. The grants will go towards funding AP math, science, and English classes. Source: RTD
